We had a good turnout this past Wednesday, and discussed some ideas for the coming year. They include: using the wall across from the library as a medium for educating students, doing a fundraiser in school before the holidays of sensible gifts that are environmentally friendly and actually useful, setting up a plastics recycling system, planting native species on campus, continuing our no idling campaign, engaging students in environmentally related contests...etc. etc. We will additionally be doing a band night the first weekend in February.
Great news on last years sigg campaign as well, SIGG USA is hoping to launch a program in schools modeled partly on what we did last year. If anyone has pictures of our sculpture from the event, please let us know. Thanks!
More to come! Check back by next Wednesday.
Thank you for this wonderful site. I am a parent of two students in Katonah Lewisboro and one at Rippowam Cisqua School. I have been working with RCS and with KES on environmental issues and have been wondering if there might be an easy way for all the schools in the area (and beyond) to share ideas so that we can build off each other's successes.
For instance, we, at Rippowam, could share our information about the program we did in the spring where we did a survey asking students to go to www.myfootprint.org and figure out their carbon footprint - then wrote an article about the findings. This fall we are selling re-usable water bottles (inspired by your work in June) and are asking people who buy the bottles if they will sign a contract/petition that says they will not use disposable bottles. At KES, they are launching a no-idling campaign among many other things and we at Ripp will want to watch that closely to see if we can do it too. I know Increase Miller and Meadow Pond are developing campaigns but I dont know what they are. So...might this site be an appropriate place to share these kind of ideas? Would love to hear your thoughts on that. Either way, thank you for being leaders in our community's efforts to protect our planet.

One other thing I meant to mention: We at Rippowam (the Middle School part of RCS) wonder if representatives from the JJHS Env. Club might be interested in coming to talk to students at an assembly this year. Please let me know if that is something you would like to consider. Thank you.

Dear Karin,
I think this site would be perfect for sharing ideas. I could send you the password/login info and you could just sign in and put up posts, or send me the material you want posted and I'll put it up as an update for what your school is doing.
And yes, we're definately interested in speaking at an assembly. We can talk more about the logistics whenever, my email is gyps13@gmail.com.
Cheers,
Eliza
